Super-Rewards: summary of 2019

2019 was a huge one for Super-Rewards! A quick summary: the company was formed and we launched Super-Rewards – Australia’s first cashback into super, designed for women. This generated a huge amount of media coverage and with the launch, came some very happy customers, as well as lots of business insights. Let’s take these topics one by one.

Super-Rewards launch

Super-Rewards was launched in October 2019, meaning that we were now open for business! Super-Rewards is an online shopping platform, where Australia’s leading retailers pay you cashback for shopping. The simplicity of the Super-Rewards concept struck a chord, because:

  • It’s free to join
  • The average cashback on the platform is 5%
  • There are no hidden charges
  • It’s compatible with any super fund or SMSF

In summary, our market research and user testing had showed that it *should* resonate well with the public, but until you’re actually in market, you can never be 100% certain!

Super-Rewards was created to address the ongoing and persisting gender superannuation gap, where Australian women retire with only money for 6 years of retirement – but live another 14 years after that. You can read more in detail in a previous blog post here.

Super-Rewards customer feedback

To say there were lots of women, excited about the prospect of earning super – simply for doing what they have to do anyway ie purchasing groceries, buying clothes for the children, organising insurance etc – is an understatement.

Other than receiving 5 star reviews on Product Review, Super-Rewards had many people emailing to tell us how this was the VERY THING they had been looking for, when it came to looking for easy ways to increase their superannuation balances.

Insights

With customer feedback and data comes insights. In just over 8 weeks since going live, Super-Rewards has:

  • Generated thousands of dollars into people’s superannuation accounts
  • A customer base where 88% of users are women
  • Reached over 7 million Australians via PR
  • Increased the number of brands on the platform from 100 to 150
  • Encouraged ‘power users’ – people who have completely changed their shopping habits so that every.single.purchase they make is doing through the platform
  • Helped one power user accrue over $265 of Super-Rewards already in that time!

In summary, 2019 was busy, exciting and extremely rewarding. Here’s looking forward to 2020!
